WELCOME to Tropical Coffee Break. My name is Kristi Rhodes and I’m writing about all things tropical and sub-tropical.  I hope you will take a break from your day to enjoy tropical views, adventures, recipes, sounds, books, furnishings, creatures or anything else tropical and fun I find.

I thought a TOAST may be in order.  I mean this is my first blog and we need to celebrate such an occasions don’t we?  Well, just in case you don’t have anything to toast with, I’ve included my favorite drink recipe.

My toast to you:

May your day be filled with tropical attitudes, relaxed family-and-friend-filled moments and peaceful minds.

Clink and drink!

Mark Klein’s Famous Fresh Margarita Recipe

This is my brother’s secret recipe.

The Finished Recipe

Ahhh....

Non-alcoholic is just as delicious, just omit the hard stuff, maybe increase the sugar

(Just a word from our legal team:  please follow the drinking laws in your state or country and only imbibe if you are of age)

*Makes 3 cups

Ingredients:

1 ½ ounces Tequila (1800 or your favorite)

1 ounce Cointreau or Triple Sec

4 limes, 3 oranges and ½ grapefruit

¼ cup sugar

1 1/2 ounces Tequila (1800 or your favorite)

First, create the…

Fresh Homemade Margarita Mix:

In a small pitcher,

Squeeze 4 limes, 3 oranges and half of a grapefruit

Add ¼ cup sugar

Stir juices and sugar together.

Next,

In a cocktail shaker or pitcher:

Add a handful of ice

Add Tequila and Cointreau

Add Fresh Homemade Margarita Mix

Now…Shake, shake, shake—shake, shake, shake…shake your boo –

Oh sorry.  Lost in a song.

Shake, shake, shake

Next,

Prepare your glasses:

(This step is optional)

Rub a lime wedge all the way around the rim of your glass

Put the lime in the coconut....or something like that

Dip your glass in a plate of salt or sugar

Next,

If serving your Margarita straight up, strain the combined ingredients in the shaker and pour into your salt/sugar rimmed glass.

If serving on-the-rocks, pour your Margarita over ice in your salt/sugar rimmed glass.

If serving frozen, pour the Margarita into the blender, give it a whirl and then pour into your salt/sugar rimmed glass.

Let the party begin...

Clink and slurp.

I’m picturing you right now having fun, drinking your Margaritas with friends. What’s your favorite tropical drink recipe?  Share below in the comments. 1. Hi Kristi-how exciting! Toast back to you on the new blog!!

    • Thanks, Leslie. I am clinking now. Just with an empty glass, it’s early and even though it’s 5 o’clock somewhere, there’s laundry to do.

  2. Although I lived in Florida for 10 years I never quite adjusted to the muggy days , insects and gators that eat small dogs. But I do love the occasional dip in the Cribbean! Loved your recipes! Cheers, Anne

  3. Saw your notice about the new blog on the WF loop and caught my attention when I saw margarita! Congratulations on your blog and tip one for me.

    • Vicki,
Thanks so much for stopping over for the margarita. I’m tipping one back, okay maybe it’s an iced tea, but I’ll pretend it’s a margarita.

    • Hi Patti:

      Thanks for the toast!

I’m joining you with a sip of ice water and a squeeze of lime.

      Kristi

  4. Hi Kristi … Love your blog. Living in New England the past 12 years, but I still miss Florida and want to move back! Will have to try the Margarita. Best of luck to your new venture.

    • Thank you, Kathy!
I know what you mean about missing the sun. That’s part of the reason for this blog. To bring a little of the tropical stuff up North.

I will pretend join you in the margarita. Raised glass, clink and ahhhh….

  5. I thought this was about Coffee! I’m at work and tried of this talk of Margaritias

    • Always remember…it’s 5 o’clock somewhere. Just kidding, don’t want to encourage drinking on job, unless your job is a margarita taste tester.

The website isn’t JUST about coffee, although I’d love to look into that Jamaican Blue Mountain java that everyone raves about. It’s about much more, all kinds of tropical stuff, like enjoying the waves lapping on the shore, recipes, stories and adventures in the time it takes to drink a cup of coffee.

But since this is my first post, it’s still all margaritas. Monday we’ll explore our next tropical topic~

  6. Oh, you make me long for St. Thomas, and the kick-a$$ drinks there. Sun, ocean breezes, turquoise bays….sigh. Gotta go to work. Thanks for the mini-vacation!

    • Laura, thank you for stopping by. You made me feel kind of like like Sally Field at the Oscars, “You get me. You really get me.”

      I love your kick-a$$ comment–:)

Joining you in a mini vacation to St. Thomas, even though I’ve never been there, I’ve heard it’s heavenly. Drifting, drifting, sun, warmth, ocean breezes, turquoise bays, ahhhhhhhhhhh. Oops, gotta go to work, too.

  7. I haven’t been to the tropics for much too long – must drop by your blog from time to time. I’d love a margarita – and maybe a mojito too!

    • Hi Faye:

Thanks so much for stopping by. Our goal is to provide mini tropical moments for those of us in need. A mojito is a great idea for a future recipe:)

    • Hi Paige: I really appreciate you visiting the site. I’m glad the pictures could bring a little Florida to your day:)
